How PUR insulation helps protect the environment
Environmental issues are taking on particular importance today due to the massive air pollution and high greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to ever-increasing climate change. One way to reduce the human impact on the planet is to use innovative materials that help to reduce the need for energy, thereby reducing the consumption of resources and the creation of pollution. An excellent example of this is polyurethane, which is used extensively in construction and refrigeration as a thermal insulation foam with excellent performance properties. Let us take a slightly closer look at this.
Why is thermal insulation important?
One of the areas that consume up to 60% of acquired energy is, for countries at our geographical latitude, the heating of residential and commercial buildings. This is necessary in order to achieve a comfortable temperature for the occupants. It is worth remembering, however, that much of the heat generated is wasted because it escapes through leaky building elements - windows, walls, roofs and floors in contact with the ground. This is due to gaps in the insulation and its insufficient performance, which encourages the formation of thermal bridges. This can be remedied by opting for suitable thermal insulation materials.
PUR rigid polyurethane foam as thermal insulation
PUR rigid foam is excellent for thermal insulation, as it has a low thermal conductivity (lambda is from 0.023 W/mK). It also has the advantage that sheets made from it can form an airtight layer, eliminating any unnecessary holes and discontinuities. Importantly, it is easy to install and lightweight, and can be adapted to a wide range of geometries. The fact that it is resistant to external influences also counts.
